Description
PoE switches send power and data down the same network cable, so an IP camera, phone or access point needs no separate power adapter. It also means one UPS in the cabinet keeps all of them alive during a power cut.
What you get
- 8, 16, 24 and 48-port models
- Gigabit ports with fast uplinks
- Managed models with VLANs for separate networks
- Power budget matched to your cameras and access points
- Rack mounting and labelling
Worth knowing
The number to check is the power budget, not the port count. Twenty cameras on a 16-port switch with a small budget will not all start, so we add up what each device draws and leave about a fifth spare. Cable length matters too, because PoE devices stop working beyond roughly 100 metres of cable.
They sit behind our Wi-Fi and cabling jobs and our CCTV installations.
